Message from the Upper School Head

Susan Heintz

Upper School Head

sheintz@stgregoryschool.org

As we head into the holidays, my hopes for all of you are simple.

Parents, I wish you moments to relax with your children, when the topic of conversation will not be assignments or grades or the schedule of the week's activities.  I hope you have time to play, talk, and have meals together, just enjoying each others' company.

Students, may these two weeks provide the rest you need after the hard work of a semester.  May you relax, rejuvenate, spend time with those you love, take moments to dream, and remind yourself of what really matters to you.

Happy Holidays!

Musical Auditions in January

Musical auditions in January! Over the break, why not get ready forUrinetown by listening to the music on-line and preparing something from the show to sing? Wednesdays after the break the after-school Dance Club will start working on the dances for the show as well. What better way to get ready for a musical than to start working on your singing and dancing? Don't forget to check out the blog and provide your own input -
Welcome to Urinetown - the high school musical!

St. Gregory Students Baking for the Needy
Twenty-two of our sixth graders spent Sunday afternoon decorating shoe boxes, sifting flour, mixing cookie dough, baking cookies and placing them in the newly decorated shoe boxes.  Once 600 cookies were baked and packaged, the boys and girls helped deliver the cookies to the Primavera Foundation and Gospel Rescue Mission shelters.  More of these cookies were delivered to Deep Freeze at St. Pious the following day.

St. Gregory Hosts Annual MDA Holiday Party

Last Friday night St. Gregory hosted more than 200 members of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southern Arizona for their annual holiday party. The guests enjoyed a dinner donated by Eegee's, the sounds of the St. Gregory choir, and a visit from Santa for the ninety children in attendance. Fifteen upper school students helped with the set-up, waited tables, assisted Santa in handing out gifts, and cleaned the entire gym so it would be ready for basketball practice the next morning. Many of the children opened their presents right away and the gym took on a Christmas morning-like atmosphere. The upper school students (and many parents as well!) did a wonderful job with the toy drive. Santa had more than enough presents to hand out, and another forty that he will pass out to the children who were unable to attend. This was our ninth year of hosting the event; it seems to grow in numbers and festivity each year. Many thanks to the St. Gregory community for your support with this year’s festivities.

Thank You to Bookfair Shoppers

A big THANK YOU to all who shopped at the Book Fair!  The fair grossed over $3,500.  The library’s portion of the proceeds will add up to over $800.  Over 50 books were donated to Casa de los Ninos.  Way to go, St. Gregory book lovers!  :o)

Soccer

MS B soccer ran its record to 6-0 with a 10-0 win over Casas Christian. Raymond Roesler, Charlie Clark, Marcos Castillo, Noa Sanders, Gabriel Swenson, Carlos Franco, and Daniel Rosenberg all scored in the win. Spencer Martin registered nine saves in preserving the shutout. This group of soccer players ran the table last year completing an undefeated season and hope to continue the streak.

Basketball

The varsity boys' basketball team is heading into Winter Break playing very well with a 8-0 record. We have had great effort from all our players and look forward to playing in the Northwest Holiday Classic from December 28-31 at Mountain View High School. The competition will be strong, with a majority of the schools from 4A and 5A divisions. We look forward to displaying our talent and work ethic in a big tournament. January will be a huge month for both our varsity and junior varsity boys' teams, with three games a week for the first three weeks. Please come out and support our teams and see our boys work hard to become the best team in the state.

Jason Apodaca and Darrell Patton

Did You Know?

To replace the income we receive from the tax credit program,
St. Gregory's would need a $10,000,000 endowment.
