Message from Head of School

Jonathan E. Martin
Head of School jmartin@stgregoryschool.org www.stgregoryschool.org www.21k12blog.net Twitter:@JonathanEMartin 520-327-6395

Yesterday, President Obama issued an executive order banning all federal employees from texting while driving on the job. This morning, I spoke to the students in assembly to communicate my request, my plea, that our students avoid texting while driving.  Statistics vary, but new reports have shown that accidents are four times (or even 23times) more likely when texting than when not.    We watched a very short clip, 14 seconds, of a PSA where students, texting and driving, crash (but we took great care to avoid showing any blood or damage done by the crash). We also had a student display the difficulty of texting and driving by playing this online game.  Please join me in being a good role model, and in insisting of the young drivers in our family, to not text while driving!

Speaker Series Invitation

Kathy Sawyer of the Family Association and Head of School Mr. Martin are working to develop a speaker series for St. Gregory students, teachers, parents, and the extended Tucson community.  At this time, we are inviting all St. Gregory community members to suggest names of potential speakers and to let us know if you have connections with people of distinction and/or prominence who speak well and might be available to speak at the School.  The School can provide some nominal compensation and travel expenses.   We welcome all suggestions, but we are especially interested in speakers who could address the topics of leadership, innovation, 21st century education, and topics related to schooling and parenting in general.

Email your suggestions and any information you might have about your proposed speakers to Mr. Martin at jmartin@stgregoryschool.org or Kathy Sawyer at ksawyer04@comcast.net Please send them by October 15.
