St. Gregory believes that participation in athletics is instrumental in helping students mature. In addition to promoting the objective of achieving physical fitness, the School makes an effort to develop the important skills of self-discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Interscholastic offerings are boys’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ swimming, girls’ volleyball, girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ cross country in the fall; girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball in the winter; and boys’ volleyball, baseball, softball, and boys’ and girls’ tennis in the spring.
Athletic facilities include playing fields for soccer, baseball, and softball, an indoor gym for volleyball and basketball, and two outdoor basketball courts. The School uses the tennis courts and swimming pool at nearby Fort Lowell Park. Housed in the gym is an athletic training center that features aerobic, free-weight, and variable-resistant equipment.
St. Gregory College Preparatory School boasts an award-winning, comprehensive Upper School athletic program steeped in excellence and appropriately balanced within the context of a rigorous academic curriculum. While committed to competitive success, the program is inclusive in nature. Multiple levels of seven separate teams are offered for both girls and boys in an attempt to provide an opportunity for all interested students.
The history of our middle school athletic program includes numerous league championships. Middle school students participate in seven activities on an interscholastic basis. Fall sports include girls volleyball, tennis for boys and girls, and football for boys and girls. In the winter we have girls softball and soccer for boys and girls. Teams participate in a variety of leagues and conferences. Upper School activities are sanctioned by the Arizona Interscholastic Association. Middle School participation is governed by the Tucson Independent Athletic League. Both programs utilize state-of-the-art transportation and are served by a certified athletic trainer. A majority of our students are involved in one or more sports.
