Safe Home

What is it?
— A voluntary promise that parents make to their teenage children and other St. Gregory families
— A standard to help parents decide on teenage responsibilities and privileges
— A concept for reducing peer pressure to use drugs and alcohol in social situations
— A conversation starter to discuss drug and alcohol use with other parents
— A starting point for discussion about our St. Gregory school community

In the “Safe Home”
— The “norm” is set that social gatherings of young people are drug, smoke and alcohol free
— Parents will do everything reasonably possible to ensure that parties, get-togethers and social gatherings with our children and their friends are drug and alcohol free
— Parents are present and visible at parties
— Adult supervision is adequate to ensure that drugs and alcohol are not being used

The best prevention is parent involvement!
— Know where your teenagers are and with whom they spend time
— Always contact the parents of friends to verify details your teenager tells you (even if they have signed the Safe Home document)
— Ask! “We follow the guidelines of the Safe Home program. Are you familiar with those?”
— Talk about the consequences of peer pressure and substance abuse to help your children make wise choices.

The law says that:
— It is illegal to serve alcohol or other drugs to a minor even in a private home
— Parents are legally responsible for anything that may happen to a minor who has consumed drugs or alcohol in their home
— Drinking age in Arizona is 21
