is one of the most important periods in a
young person’s life. St. Gregory’s middle school faculty loves
working with students and their families during this transition
from childhood to young adulthood. A dynamic partnership
between the parents, the faculty, and the students is one
of the keys to the success of the middle school program. St.
Gregory, with its distinguished record of success, offers a
rich and diverse educational experience that is holistic,
developmental, appropriate, engaging and stimulating.
Students and teachers are encouraged to pursue excellence
and strive to do their best.
The middle school consists of grades six, seven, and eight
and offers a unique and exciting program that values
academic achievement, cooperation, and good citizenship.
There are four major components to the program: academics,
arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Our academic
program challenges students to become significantly more
knowledgeable, skillful, organized, and articulate. Our arts
program helps students develop their aesthetic awareness,
creativity, and self expression. Our athletic program helps students make healthy choices, develop skills, and increase
fitness through physical education, health, and interscholastic
sports. Our extracurricular activities provide opportunities
for students to discover a talent, develop a passion,
serve their community, and have fun at St. Gregory.
Opportunities for leadership abound at the middle school.
Students develop their leadership skills through group projects,
presentations, problem solving, sports, clubs, activities, and
speaking up in class and during morning school meetings.
There are also ample opportunities for social events, dances,
and parties. Friendships are very important at this age, so we
try to facilitate good and meaningful relationships among
our students.
St. Gregory is a community defined by common goals and
personal caring. It is a wonderful place for middle school
children. We expect our students to participate fully in all
aspects of life at school, while always acting with honesty,
courtesy, respect for authority, and consideration for the
rights and feelings of others.
Academics are the heart of an appropriately challenging and
rigorous college-preparatory program. All
courses are taught at the honors level or are drawn from our
extensive offerings of Advanced Placement courses. Each
department has developed a curriculum that builds logically
and coherently from sixth grade through twelfth grade.
The upper school faculty is committed to maximizing the
potential of every student. Each student is challenged to
discover his or her personal best, and, as in middle school,
an energetic partnership between parents, faculty, and students
is crucial to student success. Parents are kept informed of
progress and encouraged to communicate with teachers.
Cultivating the habits of a balanced life is central to the St.
Gregory mission. Opportunities for growth and leadership
abound in sports, clubs, service learning and the performing
arts. In a program that values cooperation and good citizenship,
students are urged to discover their passion outside
of the classroom, whether it is in the arts, athletics, community
service, and/or student government.
The faculty has crafted an upper school experience that
prepares St. Gregory graduates for academic and personal
success, whether they choose to attend a small college or
large university.
